Spray Metal Finishing and More September 2012

 Spray Metal Finishing

As you may have noticed last week, Marc Fish's latest piece Mollusque is finished in a copper coating on the inside surface. This was done with a product made by Vero Metal (http://www.verometal.com/) and on Wednesday the students enjoyed an afternoon of experimenting with it. This product opens up endless possibilities due to the fact that literally anything can be sprayed.

We left the objects to dry overnight and then began polishing and using patination fluids to give a corroded appearance.

3D Printing

Last week I mentioned that Chris was experimenting with our 3D printer, and he has managed to successfully print a shell...

Theo's Jewellery Box

Theo who finished his furniture making course last week has sent through some photos of his jewellery box he made during his time here. A jewellery box is the standard first project on Marc Fish's furniture making course. It is ideal for a first project as it is small and incorporates a variety of techniques and skills. The students also design the box and choose which timbers to use. For this one Theo chose Indian rosewood and sycamore.

More next Friday!

Danny,

I like the box with the aluminum accents. If you look at it one way, it looks like a diminishing bevel along the two edges.

Yeah that was one of my favourites too. It's a sample for a jewellery box one of Marc's students has made. I'll post his progress in a few weeks
