New Membrane Press September 2012

Membrane Press

AirPress have spent a number of years developing their membrane press as an answer to problems that makers have encountered with standard bag press systems. They have sent us one to be tested for an upcoming article for Furniture and Cabinetmaking magazine which I will be building in the next couple of days. AirPress claim it is easier to use and eliminates problems such as the bag getting caught underneath laminates.

New Project

Chris has begun work on the latest Marc Fish piece: a cabinet in the form of a shell. In keeping with the theme that has been the inspiration for Marc's last two pieces of furniture, this project will take the technique of laminating veneers to a new level. Chris has started by making a scale model, for which you can see him making the former in the pictures below.

Special Guest

Today we were visited by Lauren from the Wharton Esherick Museum. If you haven't heard of Wharton Esherick then we strongly recommend you check out his work. Although not widely known in this country, he had a strong influence on furniture makers like Wendell Castle and John Makepeace.
